Rachel is the founder, designer, and creative force behind Grandnwar.Born on the island of Mauritius and now based in Canada, her work exists at the intersection of memory, culture, and becoming.
After nearly thirteen years away from her homeland, Rachel felt a growing urgency to honour Creole culture in a world shaped by globalisation—where stories like hers are often softened, diluted, or left unseen. Grandnwar was born from that longing: a desire to create a world where Creole heritage is not explained or reduced, but celebrated in its depth, complexity, and beauty. Her designs are deeply informed by island life—the slowness, the rhythm of nature, the warmth of ritual—and by the ancestral memory carried through generations.
At the heart of Rachel’s work is empowerment through adornment. Each piece is shaped by her own lived experiences, challenges, and transformations, becoming jewelry that holds meaning beyond aesthetics. Grandnwar is not created to decorate, but to meet you where you are—to honour who you have been, and who you are becoming. Jewelry becomes a companion: a symbol of strength, transition, and self-recognition.
Every element of Grandnwar is conceived through Rachel’s singular artistic vision—from the forms and materials to the names, soundscapes, imagery, and storytelling. A multidisciplinary artist at heart, she approaches creation holistically, believing that meaning lives in the details. Through Grandnwar, she brings a piece of island life into the world—slowly, intentionally—offering jewelry that carries culture, memory, and quiet power into the wearer’s own journey.

OUR ATELIER
Every piece is designed and handmade slowly in our atelier.
The atelier is where Grandnwar takes shape. A slow, intentional space where ideas move from sketch to form, guided by hand, rhythm, and intuition. Here, designs are drawn by hand, beads are placed one by one, and each piece is created with patience and care.Sound, silence, and process matter. From the playlists that set the tone, to the grounding ritual of hand-sketching, every step is part of the story. Materials are chosen thoughtfully, craftsmanship is honoured, and nothing is rushed.Each creation is handmade in small batches, ethically sourced, and shaped in a way that respects both the craft and the person who will wear it. The atelier is not just where jewelry is made, it is where meaning is woven into form.
